Hello Tanya,
It is possible that the rash you describe is heat rash that occurs in combination with excessive heat and clogged pores. If this is the case then Corpsman Grant is absolutely right that using lotions or oils could make it worse.
The fact that you have gotten the rash on the uncovered parts of your body when they are exposed to ultraviolet light, however, suggests another possibility.
There is an entire spectrum of skin reactions to ultraviolet light called polymorphic light eruptions, or PMLE. Sometimes these eruptions are loosely termed "sun allergies." Occasionally these reactions can be associated with the future development of autoimmune diseases such as lupus erythematosus, especially in women of childbearing age. While this kind of association is NOT particularly likely in a given case taken at random, it is what you must look out for.
If you are having a form of PMLE it is very important that you shield your skin from any direct exposure to ultraviolet light whether from direct sun or a tanning booth light. In other words, no tanning booth and no direct sunlight, until you get to the bottom of this.
I would strongly recommend that you consult a dermatologist. You will want to give him the most detailed possible history regarding UV exposure and the occurrences of your rash.
I'm sorry to have to give you this potentially bad news because I sense that you really enjoy the direct sunlight and getting a tan. But getting a consultation really is the safest thing to do. Of course you could prepare for that by finding out more about polymorphic light eruptions (you could use PMLE).
I hope I have been helpful. If so please don't forget to click on the green "accept" button. If not, please don't hesitate to tell me how I could advise you further or improve my answers in the future.
Sincerely,
Dr. Stepanek
