The most likely answer is that you were correct in your first assessment-that you had a blemish. However, some types of acne related blemishes are embedded so deeply within the skin that attempts to pop them can cause bruising, scarring or bleeding. When you cause bleeding, and a scab forms; then you pick off the scab in an effort to pop it again, healing never finishes and new areas of skin are damaged. First you must allow the scab to remain and keep the area clean, and dry. The scab will fall off naturally when the skin under it heals. If the area becomes more inflamed, hot to the touch, or you show other signs of infection you may need to see a Dermatologist.
In the future, you may consider a different approach in dealing with blemishes. There are products meant to pull pus and oil naturally from pores. Poppong, especially when it causes bleeding, is very likely to create permenant scars.
