Sent to Health Experts July 11 02:40 PM

My daughter, who is 18, started having facial break-outs during her menstrual cycle about 2 years ago. These patches of watery blisters come back in the same spot every time and seem to worsen with each episode spreading into the mouth, eyes, etc. Auto-immune progesterone dermatitis has been ruled out and two trips to mayo have produced nothing. Negative tests for simplex viruses also and no elevated histine levels. Our only course of action now is to supress her cycle. Any suggestions?

Hi, Customer (name blocked for privacy), an hormonal imbalance during menstruation, is not the only cause, for developing these breakouts. It is true, that hormonal changes during the menstrual cycle ,can induce these breakouts.

But this is a combination of hormonal causes and bacterial infection.

The hormonal imbalance can be ,controlled using birth control pills. But she must consult her gynecologist ,first. Although there are cases, in wich ,birth control pills make acne, even worse.

But it is also important ,that she receives treatment for her acne, itself. She must consult a dermatologist, who will prescribe her antibiotics , with a prescribed acne topical treatment

and other thing, it is impossible and unhealthy,to supress her cycle completely.

Reply to ALVARO's Post: She has been on birth control for months and the break-outs don't need antibiotics (its not acne).   Testing has been done for hormones (negataive), simplex (negative) high histine levels (negative). Looking for other things to test for.
