I have been having skin problems lately. In a way it seems like acne but it is not acne. I have been having these funny looking things come out of my skin that look like salt crystals. Sometimes they are clear colored and some have a brownish tint. Do you know what it might be? I thought maybe some sort of fungus or mold.

They are mostly located around my shoulders and upper back but sometimes on my temples. If I rub across the skin some will come out on there on and other protrude just enough so that I can feel them. These areas are not red and you really can't even see them. My skin just feels bumpy. But they seem to open the pore after they come out and sometimes get infected. They are mostly only clear colored like salt. I have no fever and no rashes.

Okay this sounds like you may be having some increased keratin which is normal and not a large cause for concern. Sometimes the pores will be plugged with this (the brown tip you may see is the reason for the plug) and then skin cells and debris gets caught in this and forms this hard little paste. This is harder to treat most of the time than acne because it's not really an infection so much as a stubborn plug. Many people find that using an exfoliation technique on the area helps to remove dead skin that can cause these plugs to form but it's important to not be too rough because irritation can occur and make things worse.

I do not suspect that you have any problem with fungus related to this. You would suspect a fungus/mold if the skin were flaking and showing patterns like raised circles or rings : )
