I am a college student who has both ADHD and finals. For my ADHD I take Adderall. I take 60mg time release every 5 hours. I also smoke. It is currently 6:15pm I last woke up at 11am three days ago. Before that I slept 8 hours after having stayed up three nights straight. I am used to pulling all nighters. I generally pull at least one per week, and a double all once per month. I know this very unhealthy. However for the first time I am starting to experience hallucinations. I thought I heard music earlier today. I also thought I heard a friend talking to her mom, I had seen them earlier in the day. I have to stay up yet another night and work until about 7pm tomorrow and then go to sleep. I know this is unhealthy and am prepared for the potential discomfort, substantially diminished mental ability, and further hallucinations. I have two questions. 1. What should I expect tonight? 2. (The more important question) is there a risk for any long term consequences?

Hi!

There are probably not long term consequences unless you drive or fall down the stairs because you are so fatigued. In the short term, however, you will likely not be doing quality work on projects, nor will you likely perform well on exams if you are this tired. You will find that you can study much more efficiently if you are less sleep deprived.

Getting even 3-4 hours of sleep will help you be more efficient with your remaining studies.

Here is a general article on sleep deprivation: http://www.sleep-deprivation.com/articles/causes-of-sleep-deprivation/students-and-sleep.php

Remember - finals are designed to make you think. If you are sleep deprived, you will not be thinking well.

Good luck!

Let me know if you have any additional questions.
