Is there a connection between UTI and dementia.

Is there a connection between UTI and dementia. If so, can UTI cause loss of mental ability and clumbsiness, and loss of memory? Is it reversable? Also, can poor nutrition and use of alcohol cause dementia? My mother has had a recurring UTI for 2 yrs and has not been given her nutritional supplements she has taken for 16 years. They were good ones.
