Over the last 10-15 years I have been suffering from an increasingly debilitating condition, which is particularly acute at night preventing me from getting a good night''s sleep. The symptoms are best described as a pins and needles sensation round the back of my head and below either ear resulting in the need to constantly itch in order to temporarily ease the situation. Could this be diabetes or alcohol consumption related? Is this treatable? If so, how?

I have visited my doctor on many occasions and a neurologist but advise that everything is ok, suggested strees related but I do not suffer from stress. I am totally bemused.

I once tried ana-tryptalene but found it to be too strong and it prevented me from functioning properly. Otherwise, nothing stronger than aspirin or nurofen.

I have had an MRI on my brain, in the early 80s, no problems found.

I am not diabetic as far as I am aware, certainly blood tests taken over a year ago found nothing. Otherwise, I am healthy as far as I am aware.

I will arrange for a further MRI scan as you suggest. Why cervical area and B complex vitamins?

How long should I avoid alcohol for?

It has been suggested in the past that this condition is phsycosomatic but it certainly does not feel like that to me.

Cervical area has been told to include to exclude any lesion of that area as your symptoms
suggest the area supplied by cervical nerves.
Deficiency of B vitamins particularly B1, B5,B6 & B12 may cause peripheral neuropathy.
Alcohol is one of the cause of neuropathy.
Please avoid alcohol till your investigations are complete.
