I noticed what looked like a headed large pimple in the groin area last night. I squeezed it (I know you are not supposed to) and it hurt but not much came out. I put some alcohol and triple antibiotic ointment cream on it and this morning it looks smaller. I am worried now that it may be an infected lymph node. How would I know and what should I do?

Thank you.

I got so nervous when I read your reply that I went to my gynecologist today and he took a swab of it. He said the culture probably won't be back until Friday. Is that too long to wait for an answer? He did not give me any oral antibiotics. Is there anything else I should be doing?

Greetings Customer (name blocked for privacy),

As long as the lesion is not growing or becoming swollen, continue applying a topical antibiotic on it and wait for the culture results. If it does come back as MRSA, your doctor will prescribe some Bactroban ointment that you will need to apply to your nostrils for a few days (the MRSA bacteria colonizes the nostril area predominantly and needs to be erradicated from your nose... otherwise it will continue to cause infections).

Sincerely,

Dr.Bernon
