Cathy,

I am a recovering alcoholic -drug user. WE are not doctors although more familiar with alcoholism than any NON-Alcoholic. IT is impossible for them to understand the social, medical, mental, and spiritual nature to this baffling disease.

These number are very high and you must take measures to reduce them at any cost. After stabilized with lack of harmful toxic chemicals and a heavy fiber and juice and vegetable diet the body can at time lower its enzymes level and testing can become more accurate .

The most common and the first two to test when looking for abnormalities are these: GGT ,Total cholesterol , triglycerides , HDL  and TSH .
An ultrasound of the liver , to determine how large it is etc, is often the second test.
After that there are specific tests as: Hepatitis B or C, Leukemia,Etc.bone enzyme abnormality, and 10 to 15 other things.

Don't jump to conclusions, if Coke with the diet sweetener in it consumed at a temperature over 93 degrees Fahrenheit will cause liver damage after prolonged use than anything is possible.

The first web site has a very pro patient explanation for various liver problems abnormalities and test results. Non specific , although a good place to start.

Definition:

Alkaline phosphatase: An enzyme made in the liver, bone, and the placenta and normally present in high concentrations in growing bone and in bile.

Alkaline phosphatase is released into the blood during injury and during such normal activities as bone growth and pregnancy. It is measured in a routine blood test.

Abnormally high blood levels of alkaline phosphatase may indicate disease in bone or liver, bile duct obstruction, or certain malignancies. The enzyme is often elevated in the leukemic cells in chronic myelogenous leukemia.

GGT is usually a primary test to monitor the liver enzyme structure and function (LFT) . When it is assumed that the liver is suffering from crisis alcohol or other related damage.

Explanation:

GGT (Gamma Glutamyl Transpeptidase)
Blood samples are analyzed for levels of specific enzymes
in the blood stream – there are generally 5 – 6 specific things
that are checked. Collectively these tests are called a
“Liver Function Test” or LFT. These enzymes are what are
referred to as ‘markers’ of disease and dysfunction. This is not
to be confused with a 'Functional Detoxification Profile"
which tests the function of the detoxification pathways

GT - (gamma glutamyl transpeptidase) is often elevated in those who use alcohol or other liver toxic substances to excess. An enzyme produced in many tissues as well as the liver. Like alkaline phosphatase, it may be elevated in the serum of patients with bile duct diseases. Elevations in serum GGT, especially along with elevations in alkaline phosphatase, suggest bile duct disease.
Measurement of GGT is an extremely sensitive test, however, and it may be elevated in virtually any liver disease and even sometimes in normal individuals.GGT is also induced by many drugs, including alcohol, therefore often when the AP is normal a raised GGT can often (but not always) indicate alcohol use.

Raised GGT can often be seen in cases of fatty liver and also where the patient consumes large amounts of Aspartame (artificial Sweetener) in diet drinks for example. The liver is the largest internal organ and is responsible for some 500 bodily functions.
It processes almost everything we ingest, breathe, or absorb through the skin. It plays an important role in digestion and metabolism, regulating the production, storage, and release of sugar, fats, and cholesterol. The liver produces a variety of important proteins, including enzymes, hormones, blood proteins, clotting factors,
and immune factors. Finally, the liver plays a role in detoxification.
It filters infectious organisms, alcohol, heavy metals, drugs, and other poisons from the blood, and also processes and eliminates toxic byproducts of normal metabolism.

More TESTS"

There are many different test to determine at the extent the damage is assessed.
: GGT: : TGO:  : TGP:  : Albumin:  : Bilirubin: direct  indirect : Alkaline Phosphatase:  : Antimitochondrial Antibodies: Non-reactive
: ANA Antibodies:  : Alpha-1 Antitrypsin:  : Hepatitis Panel (chonic): Non-Reactive: HCV - PCR-Q  : HBV - PCR-Q  : Serum Copper: 78 mcg/dl: Ceruloplasmine:  : Colinesterasa:  : Hemochromatosis test for genes   Asp and Cys   .e. AST, ALT, bilirubin, ALP). More tests
Glucose,  Uric acid  , MCV   and MCH  .

See how complicated this is. Confide in a doctor thet you feel comfortable with and tell him averything. Ther are transplant options and there i cure for Hepititus "C" .

Take care of the situation now by decreasing the toxsisity and increasing the healing through food and diet , Drink lots of Water.

Get educated so you can talk to the doctors. Make a folder with wout reccords, doctor names ,phone # summerys and conclusions. test results everything. It is your or some one close to you who body is at risk so be smart and collect information ant sit down with an a doctor who has nothing to gain or loose by giving his opinion. Remember. Work on the solution Do not treat the problem in hopes that it will go away.

I dont know if you are talking about yourself or someone else but I answered in several Tences.

Please write us back if you need more advice.

The Very Best to you and your family.I have been there and am on cured yet.

VIctor
