My mother-in-law is 63 y.o. She was in very good health until last Novenmber. She started to have spasm-like, burning pain from her throat down to her stomach. Pain is mainly at the throat and upper stomach area . No pain to swellow, no difficulty eating. It is painful to press on stomach area. She can identify where exactly hurts when touch the stomach area. She has tried all type of anti-acid and anti-reflex type medication like Pilosec, Zantac and Nexium. All seems to work for a few days, then the symptoms return. Pain or discomfort shows no pattern. Sometimes it is in the morning, sometimes after meal. She has stopped drinking any type of alcohol. (before she used to drink 2-4 oz alcohol 3-4 times a week). Pain or discomfort seems less when she is lying down. Stomach scope shows no signs of ulcer or inflammation. She has not lost her appetite or weight. What seems the problem?

Reply to Andi77's Post: She has not done any other test yet. But she has been on at least one of these above meds for more than 3 weeks continuously. On top of these meds. She has tried herbs as well. Outlooks were similar to each other. No pain for a week or two, then symptoms came back.
