Dear Customer (name blocked for privacy),
Hepatitis B has no cure, so if you had it 33 years ago, then you still have it today. Hepatitis can cause damage to the liver, which is why your doctor is keeping such a close watch on your liver function tests.
The goal is to decrease those levels......avoid medications that can be toxic to your liver (That is why your doctor told you to avoid Tylenol), some cholesterol-lowering medications have been known to be liver toxic, too. Just be sure to mention your history of elevated liver enzymes with the Hepatitis B to ANY doctor who tries to prescribe you medication. Many over-the-counter drugs also can be toxic to the liver; check with your doctor or the pharmacist to be sure it is safe before taking any OTC medications. Avoid alcohol (which you already do so your doing great there.) Also, great job on that cholesterol.....189. Keep that up. Also keep an eye on the HDL and LDL levels when you have your cholesterol checked. Good levels for you would be:
Total Cholesterol: Between 180-220 mg/dL
LDL Cholesterol: Under 100 mg/dL
HDL Cholesterol: Over 50 mg/dL
