My tongue has been hurting for almost a week now. It hurts on the edges and the tip. I am having difficulty eating and sleeping.

I have not taken any antibiotics in the past several months.

What would cause this?

How do I remedy it?

Thanks,
Kathy

Hi! For the symptoms to be isolated to just the tongue this is one of many things. The most common is diabetes, riboflavin deficiency, neuralgia and glossitis. Usually when just the tips and sides that involves the taste buds. Do you wear a denture or any partials that use adhensives? f you are a smoker, under more stress and have changed your diet, using more alcohol and mouth breathing this can add to it, but is not generally the cause. Have you added any snacks to your diet with a lot of salt? Or spicy? Very sour? How does your stomach feel? I think if you try using salt water mouth rinses 4-5 times a day, brush and floss everyday, you may find this will resolve on its own. If not, you need to see a dentist to See if you have any other symptoms that you are not aware of at this moment. If you have any thing to add, you have any other questions, please feel free to ask!

Reply to Marie's Post: I do not wear dentures, do not smoke or drink alcohol. I just went to the dentist on 9/19 for two fillings. I brush and floss my teeth daily. I haven't eaten anything spicy or sour.

I feel like even my lips feel a little numb. My tongue hurts just sitting still doing nothing.

My stomach has been fine. I'll try the salt water rinse but don't feel this will help.
