I woke up and my mouth was a little numb. My stomach has felt a little swollen and sore the last couple days. I have been heavy drinking the last week. Is this just recovering from drinking or is this serious. I havent drank in 2 days after drinking for about 8.

Hello,
Numbness or tingling (also known as paraesthesia) occurs when the nerve supply or blood supply to the area is compromised.
Alcohol especially with binge drinking can wreak havoc on the system. A metabolite of alcohol, acetaldehyde is responsible for toxic action on nerves as well as depletion of nerve friendly vitamins like B1,B3 ,B5. This deficiency further adds on the paraesthesia. This can lead to weakness or swelling of limbs or whole body depending on the strength and quantitiy of drinks.

You need to consult medical help immediately-
  • If you've been vomiting
  • If this tingling has been persisting for more than 8-12 hours
  • If any drugs were mixed with the alcohol
  • If you're experiencing any weakness or tremors on any limb
  • If you're having any breathing problem
  • difficulty passing urine
  • trouble speaking
  • Any kind of discomfort
  • eyelid drooping
WIth binge drinking for such a long time it is essential that a toxic evaluation be done.
I'd also advise you to take a lot of fluids preferably rehydaration solutes(avoid colas and fizzy drinks and caffeine) and on the face of discomfort of any kind, rush to the ER.

I hope you are not alone and if you are call up a friend or relative to be with you.
