Question

Sinus Surgery

Sent to Health Experts September 03, 2005 8:43 p.m.

Sinus surgery. Should I have my mucus examined for infection cause (no dr ever did that) or be treated with a higher level of antibiotic vs amoxycillan before resorting to surgery? I had 14 days of it in Nov with no luck. I have suffered from rhinitus/sinus for since July 04. Immune okay, no allergies that I know of. My nose is dry and mucus stays in post nasal area or gets directed into my ears/back up into my head so I feel like the top is totally closed off but CT showed only slight narrowing on the left side and no other problems throughout (except a slight infection in my left sinuses). My instinct is the the first acute infection went low grade and I didn't treat it soon enough/hard enough I'm hestitant to operate if the swelling would go away if infection cleared. I am nervous for surgery because of scar tissue as well - many I talk to say this is as bad as conjestion itself. I am so miserable. but I don't feel like drs ever found a cause and just want to operate.
