Question

This is a problem that has just begun for me in the last couple of yea

Sent to Health Experts June 19, 2006 4:01 p.m.

Whenever I use hair conditioner, hair sprays, some makeups and some facial conditioners, as well as suntan lotions, I become queasy, kind of unsettled and then it seems that it starts to get tight in the throat area. I'm not sure whether this is an allergic reaction or whether the unsettled part rises to the throat area. Also at these times, it seems that my whole body gets out of sorts, tenses up until the product is removed. I can start feeling the difference almost immediately when the product is removed. The problem is that I need moisturizer for my face and I like to wear some makeup. And, I like to go to the beach so I definitely need suntan lotions. I wonder if there is something missing in my diet or is there something going on with my enzines that I need to change. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. It would really be good to know what the ingredient in all of these products is that is affecting me this way. Thanks for your help. Peggy Darden

This is exactly the symptoms of an allergic reaction when you feel your throat swelling and wanting to close up on you. There are several hypo-allergenic suntan lotions and oils on the market so you need to stick with one of those. Also you would want to be tested by your physician and take all the products with you so they can determine exactly which ingrediant it is that you are allergic to as it could be anything from aloe vera to sunflower oil or even the fragrance or colors in the lotion or oil. It is not a case of something missing in your diet that is causing this reaction but what I would also recommend is take each of the products that you have this reaction from and compare the ingrediants to see which common denominator is between them and that can give you a good idea of what is causing the reaction. I know that Coppertone has a hypo-allergenic lotion and so does Hawaiian Tropic as well and this might work better for you, as well as Cover girl and Revlon both have a hypo-allergenic make-up as well so you need to stick with these types of products for the best chance of avoiding a reaction until your physician can determine the exact ingrediant that is causing the allergic reaction. They may even want to send you to a dermatologist as well as they specialize in facial and skin allergies of this nature as well.
