Hi
Most sore throat are caused by viruses. They are usually worst in the morning and get better as the day goes on. Being that most sore throats are caused by viruses, they will not respond to antibiotics. Here are a few things that you can try:
Keep drinking the hot tea as often as you can, Gargle several times a day with warm salted water, take aspirin as directed on the bottle, (if you have no known allergies to aspirin), also try throat lozenges.
However if it does not improve or you develop a fever higher that 101 degrees, you should contact your physician, as the cause may be a Strept throat which usually cause a fever higher than 101. In this case your doctor will give you prescription antibiotics.
An allergy would cause different symptoms, most likely you have a sore throat due to a virus.
I hope this helps. If you have any further questions don’t hesitate to ask.
