i get a sharp stapping pain on the top righthand side of my head if i move my head suddenly and my scalp is very painfull to te touch' this has been going on for about 2 weeks now

Yes, it can last for two weeks. Rarely it can last for months also off and on. If this is the first episode, then you need to rule out other possibilities like high blood pressure, old trauma etc.
