Hi chugamug,
Thank you for posting your question.
You should probably back off the weights a bit. When you perform heavy lifting you can irritate the muscles and nerves, and numbness is probably a sign that you are causing trauma to your body.
The nerves in the cervical (neck) area supply sensation to the arms and hands. You are probably overdoing it. You can also develop tendonitis which can cause your symptoms.
Try backing off. If that does not help make and appointment with your family doctor to make sure you have no problems in the discs in the spine or in the nerves. Stress on the spine and neck can cause bulging discs and at worse, herniation, so if you develop worsening, get it thoroughly evaluated. Vigorous weight lifting can also cause nerve injury to the extremities and this can be serious and lead to surgery.
If you have no allergies or stomach problems you can try using anti-inflammatory medication, short term to calm things down, such as Motrin or Naproxen.
