Research has shown that vaccination shots produce more antibodies when they are injected into the muscle in an arm instead of the buttocks. So, it will really depend on what the practice is at your doctor's office. But if I were taking the shots, I'd want them to produce the most antibodies to do the most good and I would say the arm is the best for that. As far as pain goes, ask your doctor if they can give you some EMLA cream an hour or so before you get the shots. This cream numbs the skin and the shots may not hurt as much. Another things you can try is to have the nurse tell you when you are getting the shot by counting 1-2-3 and giving it to you on count 3. When she says 3, blow out really hard as if you were blowing the pain away. This has been shown to make the shot not hurt much at all.
