My 55 yr. old husband had a mild stroke last May and a TIA in October, (2005). He was tested extensively on each occasion for possible etiology. He spent two days in a cardiac care unit being observed and tested, but his heart looked good. No blockages, no aneurysms, clear arteries with just minimal plaque. The only thing that has appeared in the brain testing is the "scar" from the mild stroke last May--no other damage. He was symptom free and feeling good, when a couple of weeks ago he had what the ER termed some kind of seizure. Our neurologist said he thought that, instead, it was a limb-shaking TIA. He has spent the last week doing more tests. A nuclear stress test, echocardiogram and a doppler scan of his heart. So far everything is checking out normal. THat would be good news, except that he continues to have intermittent pain in his chest, arm, shoulder and numbness in his face. In the last week he has experienced several severe headaches and tires very easily. He is also how taking nitroglycerin tablets for the chest and arm pain and carries it with him wherever he goes. He is taking Lipitor, Aggranox, baby aspirin, and Benazapril, but continues to have these symptoms. NOTHING appears to be wrong with him, but I am increasingly worried, and the doctors don't appear to be in a hurry to figure this out. Something is wrong and no one seems to know what it is. We now think he must go elsewhere to find answers. Every day now there is a symptom of some kind and he is definitely not himself, but I don't want to be calling the doctor every day since the typical response is "go to the ER". We keep going to the ER and they do hours of tests (AGAIN), which show nothing, and we go back home, concerned and clueless. My husband has never been seriously ill and has had a life of health and vitality, so this experience has been quite a shock. I don't know what to do, and I am very afraid of losing my husband because of something that is being missed. Am I over-reacting, or do we need to be more proactive in pursuing a diagnosis--RIGHT NOW? I would bew very grateful for any response. CJ Hooge
