Numbness and tingling involving the thumb and index finger are classic early symptoms of
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome -- which results, most directly, from pressure on the median nerve where it passes from the forearm through the wrist.
Several short-term treatment measures including anti-inflammatory
medication (such as ibuprofen) and resting your arm and hand may help
you to get the feeling back -- or it may even come back on its own.
However, carpal tunnel syndrome typically gets worse as time goes by --
unless there is a comprehensive diagnosis to determine the specific
cause (there are several possible indirect causes) -- and appropriate
treatment.
