Since I was a teenager 30-35 plus years ago, I have had a slightly number right upper leg. Since I have had some scoliosis (back curvature) since being an infant, and one leg is shorter when i stride than the other, I assume that my nervous wiring is not perfectly equal and balanced and I never questioned the fact that when I touch my strong upper leg muscles it feels different, a little more numb, than touching the left leg.
In order to save time (i.e. to less easily forget where I have them) in the last 5 or ten years I decided to allocate my right pant pocket to the heavy set of keys to the right front pocket, and the softer wallet to the left front pocket.
I noticed in the last years or decades an occasional itching not far from where the right front pocket falls. I assumed the combination of my walking 10-20 miles a week, the right leg being less sensitive, and the regular slightly abrasive pounding of my keys in that general area were somehow stimulating some nerve endings on the skin and thus gave me some itch.
I vaguely remember seeing months or years ago a small break in the skin or abrasion point where the keys most often touched my skin through the pocket. I liked the scratchyness of the keys there as it complemented the occasional itch.
Four weeks ago I went on a 3-4 hour or longer walk. The next day I saw my MD and showed him that the skin in one point about 1/3 inch wide near the keys impact point had come off. The MD said to keep a careful eye on that if it healed or not.
A few days later my skin in other areas was disturbed by mosquito bites, I believe. I scratched the bite areas and after three weeks those areas looked almost healed.
On my right thigh instead the small lesion inproved but then seemed to linger a bit, and then it started itching and upon my scratching, unlike the mosquito bitten areas where the crust fell off, it seemed to return to being a bit raw in part.
A few days ago I saw the first dermatologist I could find, not one I would choose among many had I been less frantic, who said the injury seemed too deep to be due to just the keys, that a biopsy was necessary, that he did not expect to find much there, and that the biopsy results will take many many more days.
From what I read there are two types of common skin cancers, one of which eventually can spread and even appear in mucous membranes.
Since I had some itching in my right thigh for almost a lifetime, and I may have overlooked a small emerging lesion for months or years due to the fact that it was not bothering me enough to be otherwise noticed, I am wondering now if should be more active than just waiting for a skin specialist I don't know or particularly trust to let me know about the biopsy.
My normal MD pointed out that a stimulus on my skin can in time cause cell change, and that he would be concerned if there had been a lesion unexplained and unchecked for months or years.
I have made an appointment with my eye nose specialist to check my nostrils in two weeks where I have had an apparent mild skin infection come and go for 5-6 months.
I have also had some soreness under my right arm armpit come and go this last month, which may be due to my transporting and walking with heavy backpacks, at times.
I feel pretty good for fifty years of age, but perhaps I feel I need a bit more sleep and I am a tad less willing or able to keep up my long hours at work, this year.
I tried my temperature last evening but it seems normal.
Any suggestions?
I have made an effort to grow up into a healthy adult by exercising and overcoming my propensity, especially as child, to collect many sore throats and mostly mild respiratory infections, so I'd like to keep it up and thrive a while longer.
