My son received his four year old shots yesterday

Sent to Health Experts July 14, 2006 9:21 p.m.

My son received his four year old shots yesterday (four of them). I just noticed that his arm is slightly swollen, red, and hot. It was not like this earlier today. Is this cause for concern?

Optional Information:
Male , Age: 4

Already Tried:
I have placed ice wrapped in a wash cloth on his arm.

REPLIED Check Mark

This can happen after vaccinations and I would not worry yet since it was only yesterday. Continue with the ice and that will be big help. You should monitor his arm for any worsening or redness spreading out from the arm as this can be a sign of infection but do not worry yet as this is normal to have some swelling and heat after the injections and it is not cause for worry at this time.

Thank you for your fast response. I just have one more question. I touched the area and where his arm is red it is also hard. Is this normal as well?

Yes this can also be normal at the site of injection from the needle going into the muscle so I would not worry yet unless it seems to continue to get worse instead of improving.
