Question

Health-- Neuroforaminotomy C7-T1

Sent to Health Experts July 29, 2006 11:13 a.m.

You answered my question of what is a neuroforaminotomy C7-T1 and I really appreciated it. However, concerning the same subject; I have pain in my neck, through the shoulder down the arm ( mostly in the bicep of my left arm) and numbness in my little and ring finger of the left hand. My question is this: If I get the operation done (C7-T8) will it alleviate the problems I am experiencing? What is the percentage of full alleviation of these problems? Thank you.

Optional Information:
Male , Age: 57

Already Tried:
I had 4 injections in the neck. I don't know if they were cortisone or steroids.

ACCEPTED Check Mark

Spinal nerves exit through the openings between the vertebrae. C7 is the level at which the nerve that supplies the "absolute back" of the arm (the actual elbow and the area aligned up and down with it) as well as the middele and index fingers.
C8 is the level at which the nerves exit that supply your pinkie and ring fingers as well as the area that is along the back of the arm toward the center. So if your arm were held with the thumb away from the body it would be the area that is closest to your body along the entire arm. T1 is the location of the nerve that supplies the inner or "front" part of the forearm, but doesn't affect the fingers.
So although the surgeon will have to give you the odds about the success of the surgery, it should be assumed that opening up these areas will relieve pressure on the nerves and allow you to be pain free.
Good luck with the surgery, I hope you get complete relief!

Relist: I still need help.
I stated in my last question that "if I get the operation done (C7-T8) will it alleviate the problems I am experiencing ?" I should have said C7-T1.
Also the question about my bicep and shoulder pain was not answered or clear to me.
