I am taking a test in Pharmacology. The question is "Your pt is an 83 year old female who weighs 122#. You want to start her on Bactrim. Her serum creatine is 1.6. What is her creatinine clearance?" How do I figure this out? Thank you.

There is a formula which can be used to calculate (estimate) creatinine clearance based on age, weight, creatinine, and sex.
Est. Creatinine Clearance =
[[140 - age(yr)]*weight(kg)]/[72*serum Cr(mg/dL)]

This is a good formula to keep written down if you are taking a pharmacology course.

Here is a link that does the math for you
In your specific question
122 pound, 83 year old, female, 1.2 creatinine = 31ml/min
