ACCEPTED Check Mark

Hi, it seems Dr. Munjal has gone away for a bit. Was your stepson smoking crack cocaine tonight? If so, cocaine many times causes very high blood pressure and can cause both heart attacks and strokes in very young people - most of the ones I have seen have been men. High blood pressure is a common cause of stroke - a bleed in the brain as Dr. stated above. This can be quite dangerou. Unlike a bruise that occurs in the soft tissue of an arm or leg - these can expand outward, a bruise or bleed in the brain cannot expand out because of the hard skull. So the pressure is placed instead on the brain and this is what causes the symptoms. The occipital area of the brain is in the back and this is the area that is responsible for vision. If your son is experiencing loss of vision, the pressure is very high and needs to be relieved with diuretics or possibly surgery as soon as possible. If the pressure gets high enough, the brain will expand downward - called herniation and your son could die. Please get him to the hospital as soon as you can. I suggest calling an ambulance as they can begin treatment en route to the hospital and can forewarn the staff of what problem they will be bringing in. Food luck, hope all goes well!
