Last night, I noticed that I have pain in my left upper arm above my armpit. It's a specific area that hurts when I press on it. I'm also aware of a sensation of pain when my arm is down at my side and I slightly tense the affected area. I can't tell if there is a pronounced lump. I am a 47 year old women. I'm overweight and have extra flab and fat in that area. I'm of course worried about cancer.

Thank you.

It does sound like you may have the start of a boil. Which you can apply a hot moist compress to the area, and this will promote the lump to come to a head to burst. Don't squeeze it, always let it burst on it's own, as if you do squeeze this it can cause further infection.

If you can't get it to come to a head or burst on it's own, do follow up with your doctor, as it may need to be lanced.

As far as cancer, if it were lymph node type cancer, it generally doesn't hurt, which from location, you being overweight etc, does indicate boil. The hot compress will help, along with ibuprofen too.

Hope this helps, If you need anything else please feel free to ask. If you found this helpful don't forget to click the *ACCEPT* button and leave *POSITIVE* feedback.

Reply to Lindie's Post: Lindie,

Thank you so much for your prompt response. You really put my mind at ease. Unfortunately, I've been advised not to take Ibuprofen because I have Systemic Lupus (SLE). I am able to take Tylenol and Aleve. Would one of those be helpful in dealing with the boil?

Thanks again.
