Going by your age, how you are describing the pain, I would say probably not heart related. But with that said, symptoms of the GI track, such as GERD, gallbladder, gas etc. can all mimic heart related problems and vice versa.

From the location you mention: The epigastric area - directly above the navel in the upper middle section of the abdomen - is where you might feel pain associated with stomach disorders. Persistent pain in this area may also signal a problem with your upper small intestine (duodenum), pancreas or gallbladder.

  • Heartburn/GERD
  • Peptic ulcer
  • Hiatal hernia
  • Here are some things to look for in case this is heart related.

  • Sudden pressure, tightening, squeezing or crushing pain in the center of the chest that lasts more than a few minutes
  • Pain spreading to the back, neck, jaw, shoulders or arms - especially the left arm
  • Chest discomfort accompanied by shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness or nausea
  • Pressure or tightness in the chest during physical activity or when you're under stress
  • Don't take aspirin, as this can cause further irritation. Try something like Tylenol. Also try taking pepcid AC, or even a 2 weeks course of prilosec too. I would follow up with your doctor. If you don't feel it's heart related from the information above, follow up with a Gastroenterologist for further evaluation. If the pain becomes severe, doesn't go away, or you just don't feel right, do be seen in the ER as they can run some tests and help to find out what is going on.

Try to take it easy this weekend. Eat a bland diet. Nothing spicy, greasy etc. Avoid soda pop, caffeine products.

Hope this helps, If you need anything else please feel free to ask. If you found this helpful don't forget to click the *ACCEPT* button and please take a moment to leave me *POSITIVE* feedback.

thank you for the response. Like i said it is hard to tell were it is coming from. I am feeling it now in the mid pectoral area. Could this be lung related. I am a smoker and have been off in on since high school, but inthe last 3 years that has changed to heavy smoking. 1/2 to 3/4 pack per day.

You state you are breathing fine, so I would say probably not, you don't mention anything about wheezing, or even having heart palpitations. If you know someone who has a blood pressure kit, you may want to make sure your BP is OK. Just go with the above I mentioned for now. And as stated, if anything changes at all then do be seen, especially since I'm not there to see you personally. You may want to try something like Gas X just to see if you get some relief.

    Hope this helps Hun
