I went down on my motorcycle and injured my wrist, it was getting better when I fell down and re injured it. I have had 3 x rays and they say there is not anything broken, I am in pain and have no strength or much motion with my wrist or thumb.

If x-rays revealed that there was no fracture, it is most likely a bad sprain. The best treatment for a sprain is RICE- rest, ice, compression, and elevation. Ice can be used 20 to 30 minutes, three or four times daily. After the first day or two you can apply heat for the next 48 hours to help relieve the pain. You can also use nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs for pain relief. These would include Advil, Aleve, or Motrin. If nothing over the counter works, then you will need to get prescription pain relievers through your doctor. You should also be using a splint for immobilization.

Recovery depends on how severe the sprain is. It may take from 2-10 weeks, but this is variable since everyone is different. You should not return to normal activities until you feel no pain if you are at wrest, you can work out and grip and move objects, and your hand and arm feel as strong as your other wrist, hand, and arm.
