Question

Neuological symptoms

Sent to Health Experts January 19, 2006 10:19 p.m.

Hello,
I have been having some strange neurological symptoms for the last 6 months or so that the doctors can't explain. They
range from intermittent to constant for several days at a time. They can be limited to one body system or involve my whole body. The most disturbing symptom is a "vibrating" feeling that feels like you are touching a TV screen or static ball. It
feels like there is a low voltage electric current running through me.   Sometimes it feels like I just passed through a cobweb.
Sometimes it will be just in my hands or my feet and legs, sometimes it will just involve my face. Sometimes it feels like it begins deep inside and works its way out to the skin, almost like I got a real deep chill, like a shivering that doesn't stop. This is where the neurologist say they cant figure it out. I have a history of TMJ and sometimes it feels like those joints are in spasm and then I get a tingling feeling sporadically over different areas of my face, lips tingle or if I turn my head to the side or try to hold the phone between my ear and shoulder the muscles in my neck on that side will twitch or pulsate. Once I change position it usually relieves it. Other times there is a feeling of "bubbling" under the skin, much like the feeling you get on your lips when a cold sore is about to break out.
Sometimes I notice symptoms when I eat foods that are extreme in temperature. The roof of my mouth will start to tingle. I had an MRI of my brain and neck and they did diagnose an arachnoid cyst and some arthritis in my cervical vertebrae. Now the neurologist said I probably have had the cyst since birth and it might cause some of the symptoms
but he's not sure. He said definitely that the arthritis in my neck would not cause any facial symptoms. I also had an EMG which showed a possible left hand carpal tunnel but nothing else. They've ruled out MS, lupus. The MRI of the brain didn't show any placques or other abnormalities. I also have radiculopathy in my lower back which may be contributing to some of my leg symptoms.
As I'm writing this there is an increasing tingling in both arms to the shoulders. My chin is tingling. If I turn my head to one side I get a tingling feeling on the opposite side of my scalp. I'm also very sensitive to any thing electrical that gives off vibrations. For instance, just resting my hands on the keyboard as I type , I can feel it up into my face. This is the second time the symptoms have lasted over a week, the first time is what sent me to the doctor.
My question is : Are there any other tests I can take to determine the cause of these symptom? Could the MRI and EMG's have missed something? Would the cyst react like other cysts ( affected by hormones like ovarian and breast cysts, which I also have a history of, I'm also perimenipausel)
    Thank you for any suggestions
Donna

ACCEPTED Check Mark

many neurological symptoms are difficult at least to pin down to one test, suggest a good neurologist, ask your primary MD, if you are in a HMO,you may need prior approval. ALSO a cat scan with contrast would be a good idea, small cyst at the base of the spine can cause the symptoms that you are having,so make the appointment in the am. hope all goes well and we are here 24/7, please don't forget to use the accept button, this will close out this question, bonuses are always appreciated. thank you in advance
