Leg sewlling

I am a forty-six year old woman and I have recently been experiencing swelling and slight bruising in my left leg. I does not hurt. When I was a teenager I hurt my knee skiing and the doctor just went in and took out all my cartilage and I now have arthritis. Could this be related?
