Hello,
Joints can hurt when:
- You have arthritis of the joint
-You have sprained one of the supporting ligaments.
- Swelling of the bursa which is a fluid filled bag in the joint - Bursitis.
- Inflammation of the tendons around the joint, called Tendinitis. This condition can occur when you have been using the arm frequently in different motions like while playing tennis, golf, gardening
- Partial dislocation of the joint
- Entrapment of a nerve or a tendon.
As you can see there are many causes of elbow pain and ideally, you need to see an orthopedist (bone doctor ) for an accurate diagnosis.
Meanwhile you can try out certain remedies at home to lessen the pain:
- Apply an ice pack (a towel placed in the fridge or ice wrapped in a towel) for 10 minutes 4 times a day.
- Keep the elbow immobile. You can apply an ACE bandage or one of those bandages which can stretch and apply it over the elbow to restrict its movement.
- Since you are already on Oxycodone, you need not take any oral painkillers. You can apply local ointments like Icy-Hot or Tobricin gently over the elbow. Do not rub it in.
- Elevate the arm above the level of the heart.
I hope this helps.
