Question

What help can you suggest?

Sent to Health Experts October 22, 2006 5:42 p.m.

Two fingers on my right hand, middle and ring fingers, both have pains in the joints. It started with the first knuckle on both fingers after cleaning quite hard. About two months ago. Both fingers are now getting stiff on occassions especially when I try to bend them. This doesn't happen all the time, but is the apin seems to be increasing, once, sometimes twice a day. The night time is worse, if I fall asleep with my hands above my head. What do you suggest?

Hi Customer (name blocked for privacy)-

You should see your doctor. It sounds like you are suffering from the early stages of arthritis. There are many different forms of arthritis, and getting a proper diagnosis is important - not only in terms of care, but also in terms of preventative medicine (to help keep the pain from getting worse).

The good news is that there are many excellent medications available to help decrease the pain and stiffness - both prescription and over the counter. If you can't get in to see your doctor right away, you should start taking Tylenol Arthritis as needed for the pain. Acupuncture is also a great idea, particularly if it has helped you manage the pain, although you may want to discuss this method of treatment with your doctor before doing more sessions.

Emily
