I am a 48 year old male very athletic weight lifter, I have arthritus in my hip I am manageing it I am takeing celebrex, and working out regularly I have always taken alot of caffeine over the last 15 years for my work outs my question is two part is there any studies that relate excessive caffeine to arthritus, and do you think it is okay to push myself as long it is tolrable thanks Mark v

There are conflicting studies regarding the association of caffeine consumption and rheumatoid arthritis. At this point - I don't believe there is a definitive answer to your question about caffeine and arthritis.

Generally, I advise patients to avoid caffeine for other reasons including an increased risk of sleep problems, GI upset, and fatigue (most likely related to sleep disturbances)

I would suggest seeing a rheumatologist or orthopedic surgeon about the hip pain to answer the quesiton about continuing the exercise - and determine if any modification would be necessary to avoid aggravating the problem.
