Question

Usage of Coenzyme Q10 prescribed by doctor

Sent to Health Experts September 04, 2006 1:48 p.m.

My son is taking Coenzyme Q10 for a disease that has no cure. (Mitochondrial disease) I have a very difficult time getting the Coenzyme Q10 mixed with water to insert in his G-tube. Recently I noticed if the water is warmed up or hot, then the coenzyme mixes much easier. Would heating up the water change the chemical make- up of the Coenzyme Q 10 or is it safe to do so? Presumably, wouldn't the body be heating up the drug once it reaches the stomach as well? If this is not a safe technique, is there a better way to mix it? Thanks, Beth

The amount of heat that you would use to dissolve the drug should be not more than if you were taking it with a hot beverage. I would not directly microwave the product nor use boiling water, but the warm/hot tap water should not affect the product.
