MasterDoc: How is his mood?
Customer (name blocked for privacy): he seems to be normal, I don't think he realizes how severe the damage might be
MasterDoc: ARe the MD's puzzled by his inability to walk or do they just say 'that's the way it is'?
MasterDoc: and how long ago was this?
Customer (name blocked for privacy): I haven't received any answers from anyone, He had the accident in december and has been bounced around from nursing homes to hospitals and he is now home
MasterDoc: different parts of the brain control different functions of the body.
MasterDoc: some control thinking and reasoning.
MasterDoc: some control movements of the arms and some the legs.
MasterDoc: one other question...WHY can't he walk? is it one leg , both or...;?
MasterDoc: can he bend his knees if they hand loose?
MasterDoc: hang not hand
Customer (name blocked for privacy): at first he was not moving anything so the doctors told us that he would be paralyzed, then he started moving all of his right side which he seems to have control of, however when he started moving the left he seems to have no control of his leg, the arm he only moves it up and down with no movement on the fingers
MasterDoc: ok... this kind of restriction is NoT unusual as a function of a massive injury to the brain.
MasterDoc: he damaged the motion part of the brain but not the thinking part so much.
Customer (name blocked for privacy): is it possible that he was dignosed incorrectly, if so what are the questions that I should be asking
MasterDoc: it's hard to imagine that they would misdiagnose him..why do you think they might have?
Customer (name blocked for privacy): because everything that I was told he would not do, he is doing it.
MasterDoc: such as/// thi session is almost done...
MasterDoc: this
MasterDoc: what is an example?
Customer (name blocked for privacy): he would not talk, and not eat by mouth, especially that he would not move,
Customer (name blocked for privacy): but he is doing those things
MasterDoc: oh..so he kept getting a little better than they expected?
MasterDoc: or a medium amount
MasterDoc: no that does not mean they diagnosed him wrong. it more likely means they were overstating a little so your hopes ouldnt go so high
Customer (name blocked for privacy): a lot better than expected. He seems to be improving but no one tells me if he was the potential to walk
MasterDoc: mds do that a lot
MasterDoc: they always lean towards pessimism in this kind of thing..doesnt mean they are wrong overall
Customer (name blocked for privacy): what should I expect, especially now that he does not have any rehab therapy
MasterDoc: how long since accident?
Customer (name blocked for privacy): 10 months
MasterDoc: you should expect little if any further improvement.
Customer (name blocked for privacy): reason?
MasterDoc: sorry trying to type fast
MasterDoc: cause 19 months is a long time for further improvent to come.
MasterDoc: sorry 10
MasterDoc: typo
MasterDoc: but there is some chance
MasterDoc: just not likely
Customer (name blocked for privacy): what should I be doing to help him physically?
MasterDoc: the physical therapist should discuss this with you
MasterDoc: or the supervising rn on the case
Customer (name blocked for privacy): ok, thanks
MasterDoc: yw
