I got a viral infection in Oct last yr.(65yrs)I was a smoker, stop 20yrs ago.I was left with a dry cough,no other symptoms. It was a little cough every 1min and it kept me up at night.I went back to the Dr and they said Chest sounded congested so they gave antibiotics and this went on till April with no improvement.I had Pnemonia 2 years ago and had Ct scan and it showed that I had bilateral fibrosis. They thought then that they would send me for an x-ray to check that after 7 mths it was not anything. The xray came back with the same only the fibrosis, no reason why I sounded so congested and cough.I kept reading on the internet about asthma but the Dr said it would not present with a cough. A dr friend heard my chest and said he could hear a wheeze.I went back to my GP and he referred me to the chest clinic but in the meantime he gave me the asthma treament. That night I slept all night. With meds I am back to normal. If I stop the cough retrns slightly. Is this a form of Asthma?

Thanks Dr, I am just scared because the clinic appt has come through since request in April and I am worried that it is something else. Since the medication I am feeling so much better. Will I have to stay on this medication now in the morning and evening.

Hello,

Don't worry as it is quite unlikely to be anything else. It is better to be on asthma medication for a while and they are tapered in doses and frequency gradually sometimes, so your PCP or specialist will gradually do it.

Nothing worrisome. Rest assured. Anything else would not have got better by the medication.

You are welcome.
