An elderly friend uses 2 inhalers daily (combivent and flovent) to assist her shortness of breath. This summer she began exercising (aerobics and light weights). She said she felt so good that she stopped using the flovent and only used Combivent twice a day instead of 4 times/day. Using fewer meds is great if she is not risking her health. I am concerned she is cutting back because she cannot afford the full dose. Is there any risk long term is she reduces her use of these inhalers? Many thanks for some guidance...

Usually one has asthma should take their inhaler before exercise to prevent an episode. It could be her asthma has improved or simply is at an upswing. She really should contact her md before stopping her meds on her own.If you go to the website American Lung association.org, they have a great asthma reference that can guide you more.
