Oral cancers tend to occur in the mouths of smokers or heavy drinkers. The usual appearance is a lesion or mouth ulcer which does not heal.

If the roof is raw, then its possible you have a fungal infection, especially if there are any white patches or furriness on tongue and side of mouth.

Using asthma inhalers will predispose to this sort of problem. Do you use any medication?

Swollen glands are a sign of the body fighting bacterial, fungal, viral or parasitical infection (although there are other reasons for swelling too) Swollen glands in cancer rarely hurt. Also tend to be a long standing problem of several months duration.

The simplest treatment for the moment is a chlorhexidine 0.2% mouthwash however if this is too painful to use, then make up a saline mouthwash until you can see your doctor or dentist.

Some medication can cause oral problems. If you are otherwise healthy, then this is something to be treated but not to worry about with respect to consequences.
