Question

HIVES AND MUSCLE PAIN

Sent to Health Experts September 28, 2006 8:00 p.m.

Hi there, am 31 and started to develop hives a few weeks ago. After asthma crisis (first one ever 2 weeks ago), I was prescribed prednazone 20mg, 5 days. A day after I stopped, strange things happened. Hives were a lot more frequent, itcher, and spread across body, and I have started to develop muscle/joint pains particularly in the hands/fingers/palms/wrists and sometime also in other moving places in the body. I had a RA and ANA blod test, both were negative. I am wondering whether the pain is a side effect of the steroid (I took it for very short period of time nut have very sensitive body), and if so, how long will it last (it is already a week) and how dangerous is it for the body,, anything I can do? If these are not steroid related, what else could it be?

This could actually be a reaction to the prednisone and you should take some Benadryl for the hives and this will help to stop the reaction. It can be a reaction as far as the pain as well and if so this could last for up to 72 hours after the last dosage so if this still continues to be a problem or gets worse after the Benadryl and the stopping of the Prednisone than you do need to let them know so they can perform further evaluation.
