Reply to Pauline's Post: It doesn't really spread, the pain is centralized between the middle of my back and my left side.

It has been hurting on and off for about a year. But the pain has become extremely severe with in the last 24 hours.

Yesterday the pain started suddenly as I was going up the stairs.

There is no numbnessin my genitals, but my bowels are occasionally loose with or with out pain but they are loose now.

If the pain is greater than 7/10 then you need to get evaluated today to establish whether this is a possible kidney pain, or a mechanical back pain/nerve root pain.

It does not fit the typical pattern we see with a lower lumber spine distribution but pain with movement would suggest mechanical back pain. If Aleeve is not helping then you may need a codeine based painkiller or tramadol and these are only available on prescription.

At age 32 then this is unlikely to be a pathological spine problem but you should have x ray or CT/MRI in order to determine if any nerves are trapped.

Should I go to the emergency room or would a clinic be able to help me?

If there was any reason to believe there was kidney involvement (strong smelling urine or change in color) then go to ER, otherwise a clinic should be able to conduct range of movement and neurological lower limb examination to determine spine involvement.
