Question

urology, felt like kidney stone but am having some odd pain

Sent to Health Experts August 23, 2005 8:33 a.m.

i dont know where to begin, had kidney stone like pain about a week and a half ago,( i have had them b4) docotr took catscan about 24 hrs later , said there was no stones on scan, had the back pain for about half hr, then next day,had period like cramps in bladder and over legs, then it changed again from that to feeling like i had to pee every time i would lie down on my sides then even on my back, then pain chaned again , to feeling like my urethra was being tortued with a stick, sorry i just cant explain the pain down there, i even have it while sitting or lyine down, not when i urinate though, maybe sometimes after i urinate but always when im just lying down and its there with the feeling to urinate, when i first got the back pain i checked my urine the next day and it was disgusting, i could see the bloodmyself alot of blood, the docotr saw the blood said he was leaning towards a stone but when scan came back showing n othing he totally has written me off, wont even answer my calls, im scared because the bladder and pain where i urinate from hasnt gone away yet the little red pills barely take the edge off of the pain and urgency to urinate(the ones that turn your pee orange)i have had like 4 stones in the past that i have passed, none with these kinds of symtoms just the back pain was the same. what could be wrong with my bladder and where i urinate from? im getting a bit scared but my dotor wont ee me cuz he sees nothing in that cat scan, i have made an appointment with another urologyst, but they cant see my till next tuesday, my symtoms?,,,, are they stone symtoms maybe ones i have never had b4 or do you think there is something else wrnf with me, i have been thinking my brain off my shoulders and all i can theink of is that my urethra was scratched up and bladder irrataed pretty bad when i must have passed a stone but i f i di pass one i dont remember this is the strngest thing that has ever happened to me and to tell you the truth im getting a bit nervous, im a 42 yr old woman i live in ny state. please respond to my email i am feeling desperate since my own dotor wont even call me to try and explain what is happeing to me   thank you so much ! maria

Dear maria,
I am sorry to hear about your problems. Your symptoms do correlate with a diagnosis of Urinary tract stones.
There are a few things that I would like to clarify,
1) Was the CT a contrast or a Plain (since contrast CT with dye injected can sometimes miss a stone)
2) What was the result of the urine routine examination? Did it show a lot of pus cells, this could suggest a UTI
3) You are correct in thinking that you may have passed the stone out and that is why you are having this problem of burning urethra, the other possibility could be a urethritis (infection)
I would drink lots of Fluid so as to keep my urinary tract hydrated.. it will help in most conditions we have discussed
All the best for your appointment with the new urologist, I am sure things will work out right,
regards

i just sent 2 emails, i clicked on reply from the one that was sent to me by the doctor. i will reply here too in case i did it wrong, i would like to know where urethritis comes from and in my case that i explained in my posting would it be from passing a stone? and to answer the doctor questions, no there was no conttrast used with ct scan, and my urine was never cultured   my primary care docotr checked my urine about 2 days or so after this had strted and said there was blood and a bit of pus, when the urologyst checked it the day b4 he said there was alot of blood but never mentioned pus and said he was leaning towards a stone as a diagnosis , but since he didnt see one   its like thats it he wont even see me whn i call to tell him all the pain i have in my urethra and having to pee alot, and by the way there is no burining   its pain even while sitting here not when i pee when i sit   walk lay down especially on my rite side. this is the first time i have ever done this online im sorryif im not doing this rite i dont know how to do this i still have a few quesions as i have stated in this post reply message and then i m thinking thats when i click on accept is that correct? thank you Customer (name blocked for privacy)
