Question

I have severe mid back to left side back pain at night when ...

Sent to Health Experts June 15, 2006 12:52 p.m.

I have severe mid back to left side back pain at night when I lay down to sleep or while driving for long periods of time or after having eaten a large meal. Its an ache type pain.   I have a bulging disk in neck area which causes pain during the day and have a slight bulgind disk in the mid upper back area but Dr. says it should be causing that much pain. Ultra sound today showed some polyps in gall bladdar. Could polyps be causing all the pain? Or is there something else I should be looking for? thanks lisa

bulging disk in cervical area does cause my left arm to go numb at night on occassions and I have left shoulder pain as well which preceeded all the numbness, neck, and upper back pain by about 1 year. (had these symptom about 2.5years total)

Mid back pain started immediately overnight about 1 year ago. MRI shows just slight bulge in upper/mid back which should NOT be the cause of this much pain. No nuero symptoms from the midback bulge that I know of. No weakness in legs or numbness. Pain is mainly when I lay down. Lots of aching progressing over the night. I have to change sleep surfaces several times a week and sometimes during the night. I have changed mattresses several times. Thanks for your help lisa

ACCEPTED Check Mark

Regarding the back pain i will advise you to check whether your lumbar curvature is sraightened also called lumbar lordosis .Check for spasm in paraspinal muscles.Do compare these longitudnal muscles of both sides They are present along your spine.
According to my opinion this is the most common cause of back pain now a days .
Take appointment with a physiotherapist .
Till than apply hot packs in that area .This will reduce the spasm in your muscles
YOUR Physiotherapist will decide about the modalities to be used like lumbar traction,IFT etc
