I take Elavin 25mg at night to help with back pain and as a sleep aid. With the recent news on the possible link of antidepressants with Type II diabetes (is family hx of diabetes in my family), should this dose of Elavil concern me and should I stop?

While there is no evidence to suggest that Elavin (amitryptyline) causes / predisposes to Diabetes, it is well known that it can affect the blood levels (especially in diabetic patients).
So while there maybe no cause of alarm, I would like you to switch pain-killers as per discussion with your physician, since there are many alternatives taht do not carry this risk..
