My husband is 67 and was in top shape until about 6 months ago. He got terrible cramping in his legs (from working out?) and started to lose weight (from 210 - 5'10" to 180 lbs now). He also had lower back pain (kidneys?) and his fingers would lock in a bent position. General weakness and loss of muscle mass now prevent him from working but he's leaving on a 8 week motorcycle trip next Tuesday morning and I'm worried. Could Omega 3's be the cause? He stopped taking 2 caps x 1000 mgs a day and a natural herbal mixture of Three leaf caper, Horsetail, Saw Palmetto & tomato called "ProSense" (North Star Nutritionals) about a week ago and seems to be getting better but we don't know if that could have been the cause of his deterioration. Help!

Present symptoms:   General weakness in legs and back; walks bent over.

His back pain was and is mostly centralized. He even had chiropractic treatments twice a week for 1 month, without any positive results.

3 last questions: no nausea or vomitting; no burning on urination and would not consult, feeling he would be OK by May 15th...

Reply to Dr Amit Munjal's Post: Present symptoms: Muscle weakness and loss of tonus, sore back and cramps upon effort (Legs, abdominal muscles, etc.)

Back pain seems centralized. He consulted a Chiropractor and went twice a week for 1 month, without visible improvement.

No to the last 3 questions.

Hi,

In my opinion he needs a X- Ray / MRI of lumbo sacral spine to rule out herniated disc .

Since his pain is mostly central and there is no associated Urinary symptoms i suspect it to be due to pinched nerve .

Also his serum Uric acid and RA factor may also be checked .

Hope this helps
