Question

Tubal Ligation

Sent to Health Experts September 02, 2005 2:15 p.m.

I had DVT in the past and I am unable to take any form of birth control. I would like to get a tubal ligation done. But no one will do it. Because they say I am too young. What can I do?

The best birth control methods are non-hormonal such as condoms or diaphragm. Talk with your primary Dr again and that is only after you think good long and hard about whether or not you want children. When I was 25 years old I wanted my tubes tied but no one would do it, I have an incompatent cervix, was told at that time my chance of having a baby was not good, well I was able to successfully have two children in my late 30's and early 40's. I am just sharing in case you are unsure at this point about having a baby or not.

Joanna,

I am 28yrs old. When I had my first and only child I was extremly high risk to where I had to inject myself with heprin daily in my abdomin. When I delivered her, I ended up losing consiousness. I had to be hooked up to a respirator. I went against what the doctors told me and got pregnant. After having my daughter they made it very clear to me that I am not to have another child. Since my daughters birth my health has gone down hill. I talked to my OB today and he refuses to do the procedure. And we both know that condoms and spermicides are not 100%. That is how my daughter got here in the first place. I am really needing to know if I should go and get several opinions else where. Or just leave it as a lost cause. I cant afford to be hospitalized again for another 3mths after childbirth or even have another pulmonary ambulisum. Help!!

Tell your Dr you are aware of your Patient's Bill of Right's. You have a right to chose your health care. You have a right, as a patient and a consumer to know what is best for you. Also, try a female dr who is usually more compassionate.
