Question

Unusual Bleeding

Sent to Health Experts July 28, 2006 6:05 p.m.

I started taking a new type of Birth Cotrol Pill 13 days ago - 7 days into it, I started spotting. This has progressed to steady, heavier bleeding. It is the 6th day of spotting / bleeding. I stopped taking the pill two days ago (Wed a.m. was my last pill) because if this, but it has not sussided. Is this normal? Or should I see a Dr?

Estrostep. I was taking Seasonale several months ago (for total of 6 months) and never had this happen. Some very mild spotting, but nothing like this.

It generally takes the body about 2-3 months to get back to normal, after going off hormones. If you are changing one pad or tampon in an hour, then this needs to be evaluated immedately by a doctor as this can lead to anemia. Breakthrough bleeding and
changes in your menstrual cycle are known side effects for Estrostep. Usually any bleeding or spotting that lasts for 10 days or more needs to be evaluated by a doctor so if this does not dissipate on it's own by then, I would see a doctor. It could be that you have a hormonal imbalance, or just that the body is trying to get back to normal after being off the pill.
