I was told that sperm is only viable up to 48 hours, how come any other information I find says that it can last up to seven days in a womens body. Im curious cause there is alot of contradicting information out there and i dont know which is right. Also, how less effective do antibotics make your birth control pills? Does it destroy their use completely?

Reminder: I am worried because I am on the pill buthad sex without a condom three days prior to starting an antibiotic...

Once ejaculated, sperm can live up to 5 days- not 7 days. Antibiotics can lessen the effectiveness of birth control pills whether it be for contraception or regulation. Antibiotics that have been shown to interact with contraceptives include Rifampin (brand name Rifadin), Penicillin (Veetids), Amoxicillin (Amoxil or Augmentin), Ampicillin (Omnipen), Cotrimoxazole (Septra or Bactrim), Tetracycline (Sumycin), Minocycline (Minocin and Doxycycline), Metronidazole (Flagyl), and Nitrofurantoin (Macrobid or Macrodantin). If you have this concern please talk with your doctor.

I am taking Ceftin for a sinus infection.. Im just worried because even though I am on the pill and do take them everyday, I had sex three almost four days prior to taking the antibotic, and even though my partner did not ejaculate( not at all cause we stopped before he even got to that point)there could have been precum and semen could have lived inside of me, i could have ovulated because of my antibiotic, and I might end up pregnant, I would just like to be calmed down, for I am a very anxious person and I keep getting different information from different sources.

As Ceftin is not on the list above, then I would not worry about it at this point. Plus as the intercourse was so many days before taking the antibiotic, it would not have affected the pill, even if it was on the list.
