Unsuspected bleeding, possible ovulation
Sent to Health Experts August 04 03:53 AM

I have been on Kariva birth control and am half way through my third month. I went to a very busy, sleepless summer camp, and on my second week of the pack, i missed a pill. The missed pill was on Tuesday, Aug. 25. On wednesday i took the regular dose of, one pill (not realizing i had missed the day before's), and noticed the missed pill on Thurs, Aug 27, at this time i took Thursday's pill as well as tuesday's (at the same time). I know now that i should have just skipped that pill, but on Friday morning i woke up to what felt like my periods before going on the pill. I have been having constant bleeding (and cramps like i did before the pills, for a week now). I have been taking one pill a day since the incident, and am worried because my period based on the birth control is supposed to be in 6 days. Why am I having this bleeding now, is it normal, did i do something really bad? And should i stop taking the pills?

Optional Information:
Female , Age: 19

Worring. I just continued taking the normal pills, thinking the bleeding would stop or i would find someone i felt comfortable seeking advise from.

Hi

No you have not done anything "really bad."

You should continue to take your pill as normal.

Missing your pill and then taking 2 has doubtless caused this unexpected bleeding but I would expect it to settled down.

Next time, as you suggest, just take the one pill and take extra contraceptive measure till you start the next packet.

Hope this helps

Reply to Alexander Irvine's Post: I think to clerify my questions..
1) Will i have two periods this month, the one i'm on now, and one again in a week, when the pills are finished?
2) What should i do if the bleeding does not settle? / How much longer should i wait?

1. Probably, but difficult to predict.
2. If you bleed for 2 weeks - speak to your Dr.

I think you also wanted to know about ovulation?
Since you were 24 hrs late , you should assume that you have ovulated- good work using those condoms.
