The key to successful lactation is stimulation. The optimum is every 3-4 hours for a maximum of 30 minutes total. Lactation can be induced by stimulation alone, but it can be a long process and you really need to stick to a regular schedule as much as you can. There are also herbs, but these are only good once you have at least drops, to increase the supply. The most popular herbs include fenugreek, blessed thistle, and red raspberry leaf. Some women also use Mother's Milk Tea, which is a tea that contains a combination of these herbs. Some women steer clear of fenugreek, as it can cause bodily fluids to smell like maple. There are also two medications that can be used safely to increase supply.
